Single Spine on hold again

Public sector workers expecting to receive single spine salaries at the end of this month will have to prepare for some disappointment.


This is because the Fair Wages Commission says apart from the Ghana Police Service, the mapping process to determine the single spine salaries of most workers is yet to be finalized.

Though the Controller and Accountant General had warned it would require more time for full implementation, government insisted the new salaries can be paid be the July deadline.

Chief Executive of the Fair Wages Commission George Smith Graham however tells Joy Business the ten percent increase in salaries across board will definitely be paid this month.

He explained the number of years served by public servants will determine the grade of the person on the Single Spine Salary Structure.

“In this case it means you should be able to identify every single public servant, know the number of years they have served on the grade, map them onto the new salary structure so that when you pay you will know the person ought to be on salary level 20.

“It is a painstaking process and it has to be done to ensure equity and transparency in the implantation of the SSSS,” he said.

He advised workers not to be disappointed with the delay adding there is the need for enough due diligence to be done.

The single spine salary structure promises enhanced salaries for government workers based on their value and contribution.

About 70 percent of workers on government payroll are expected to see an increase in their salaries.
